Review:Pat Summitt's autobiography is written in the same manner as she coached. When she learned that she was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's she didn't let the disease knock her down. She was determined to keep coaching and while she privately wept, she kept up her work, her spirit and her life.This book shows that this is typical Summitt. Whether it was her childhood on the farm in Tennessee with her parents and brothers, as a player at the University of Tennessee- Martin, on the 1976 Olympic team, or the head coach of Tennessee, she has always approached each task and challenge head on. The writing and recollections in this book illustrate this characteristic well.I found the beginning of the book very interesting as she starts out with memories as "I remember" and other items that she doesn't have clear recollection as "I don't remember." It was sobering when the reader remembers why she is no longer coaching.I also liked how Summitt addressed subjects that would be troubling to her personally and also how she addressed matters that would be considered controversial at the time. For personal matters, not only did she write about learning of her diagnosis with grace, she also wrote about the end of her marriage, her miscarriages and her other medical conditions without any anger or bitterness. She simply wrote about what took place, what she was feeling, how she dealt with it and what came next.As for controversial matters, the best example would be her writings on the feminist movement in the 1970's. She never sounded bitter about being "in her place" especially as it related to her childhood. While she certainly worked toward the goal of women's equality, she was not a rabble rouser or radical when it comes to this issue. She realized that her program at Tennessee benefitted by Title IX, the ground-breaking legislation that required schools and other institutions that received federal funding to ensure that programs for each gender were equal. In the world of college sports, that meant that many women's sports programs had to now include better facilities, scholarships for athletes and other such improvements. Summitt realized what this meant, and wrote about it as someone who graciously accepted this, but also knew it was long overdue.Summitt is the coach has won the most games in college basketball history, male or female. She has made the Tennessee Lady Volunteers one of the premier basketball programs in the country. But through it all, she has never forgotten that family is important, whether it her parents, siblings and son, or whether it is her players who grew up while playing for her at Tennessee. "Sum It Up" an outstanding book that anyone will enjoy, whether or not the reader is a sports fan.Did I skim?NoDid I learn something new?Yes. Too many to list each of them, but I would place at the top of the list learning about the coach's childhood upbringing on the farm in Tennessee. She was certainly "one of the boys" on the farm, and despite the roles each gender played at that time, she was one who broke the mold early.Pace of the story:Good. It never dragged and progressed in chronological manner, as autobiographies usually do.Positives:Through all of her ups and downs, the reader never really feels negativity through Summitt's words. This is not to say she never expresses any sadness or anger - she states these in a manner that is more of the line that "this is what happened, this is how I felt, this is how I dealt withNegatives:There are no glaring negatives or weakness in this book. Summitt covers every aspect of her life, both personal and professional, without pulling any punches or leaving out chunks that would make readers feel like something is missing.Do I recommend?Yes! This is an excellent book for not only basketball fans, it is also a great read for anyone who is looking for a role model, a source of inspiration or for finding out how to do things the right way.

I bought Sum It Up as soon as it came out and all I can say is if you are looking for an inspiring read, this is it. Pat Summit is a fascinating women with an incredible career and a lot of courage and grit. Her co-author Sally Jenkins has a great gift for bringing out interesting details that provide the story behind the story. While Summit has coached women's basketball, I found her ideas on what it takes to be a champion to be directly motivating to me in my work which has nothing to do with sports. I was also interested to learn about Summit's early life and how those experiences shaped who she became.  Of course, this book is bittersweet because of Summit's diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer's, yet again Summit's is inspiring us by reminding us to face and fight adversity as hard as possible as well as to treasure each moment.

I purchased this book to learn how Pat Summitt dealt with her disease of Alzheimers. My low rating of Sum It Up has nothing to do with the basketball portion of the book. I am a physician board certified in Geriatrics. I screened a lot of patients for dementia. I played basketball and had the same commitment, never give up, and intense drive to win by fighting as hard as I could. Pat brought this strategy in dealing with Alzheimer's. I gave Sum It Up only two stars because I believe her approach is the exact opposite what a patient should do when they learn they have Alzheimer's. Don't fight.Have fun. Forget trying mental games to improve your disease. Of course try to exercise 150 minutes a week but it should be a nice walk, not strenuous weight lifting. Of course take Namzaric. Control blood glucose and blood pressure. I also like low dose statin. If you want to try to find a drug trial, I think that is fine. However you cannot fight your way out of Alzheimer's. Right now it is a false hope and time should be spent socializing and having some alcohol. In cancer you can fight as people have been cured. Pat goes to her neurologist twice a month for mental testing and blood work. Totally unnecessary. See the neurologist every four months to get a refill on your Namzaric. Get a dog. Much better for you.

I’m a Vol fan and a Pat Summitt one as well. This is a fascinating read of what made her so tough and how she and others recognized early onset dementia and how it progressed. The fact that other colleges exploited the situation by getting recruits to withdraw from UT because the famous coach wasn’t really coaching makes u sick. I did for book club during national dementia month in which I served “good” brain food. Enlightening for all . Some thought she was way too tough - but tough was how women sports programs didn’t receive title 5 funding. She not only won games - she was to women college sports programs as Rosa Parks was to people of color. Get inspired. Read this one.

I took this based on a recommendation and was pleasantly surprised. At first I didn't want to purchase it because of the print issues people were talking about. However, after reading the comments it was obvious that it wasn't the authors fault but Amazon's printing press' issue and the author verified that Amazon fixed it. Good thing too because my copy was perfect. So all in all, I got the cheapest and what appears to be the better of them all....so, I'm happy.

I ordered the Kindle version of this book and I was quite happy with the results. There were no issues with the printing as far as I could tell, so I am not sure what the negative reviews were talking about... but as for the content of the book, I have to say it was top notch. The topics are easy to read and thoroughly explained. There are even examples from previous tests. This book made studying for my CNA simple and painless. I highly recommend this book to anyone taking the exam.

A very good review book for the CNA boards. I found the sample tests to be a bit more rigorous than the actual CNA exam, but that's a good thing. Nothing beats being too prepared.

After reading all the comments I really thought this book was going to be great... but boy was I wrong. The grammar and spelling errors in this book are unreal. The questions have wrong answers as right (I know because I compared it to my nursing textbook) on top of which, it did not help me prepare for my test because how am I supposed to know what is right?. I regret buying this and don't recommend it

It does not contain flashcards as it promises, I would have ordered another CNA preparation book instead of this one but they promised flash cards and other items to prepare for the exam.

I'm trying to learn the fundamentals of being a CNA prior to starting the class and this book has helped so much. The pre-test helps so much to understand what I need to focus on. Love it!

I heard about this book at a Professional Development session for teachers. It sounded intriguing, so I took a chance and bought it. I read it in one afternoon. Granny reminded me a lot of my own "I Love Jesus, but I Cuss a Little" grandmother. As a Kentuckian, I felt a connection to the effects of MTR on rural communities.

A perfectly crafted story with characters you won't soon forget. Liberty's relationship with her grandmother is so wonderful. It was also refreshing to get a view of MTR (mountaintop removal) from someone who understands the communities in which it takes place. I loved Liberty's finanacial situation was woven into the story and was so realistic. Authors so rarely get this right. Highly recommended!

Dig too Deep is a great read. I couldn't put it down. Each page had me wanting more. I was frustrated because I had to put the book down a few times. I cried, laughed, related in so many aspects. It's for everyone. Most books have specific readers...there is a little something in all parts that someone can relate to. You want the character to survive. She's identifiable, trustworthy, and brave. Loved it. I want my daughter to read it. Looking forward to Amy's next book! Felt like this went too fast.

This was a page turner. I recommend it especially if you think mountain top removal is a sin against creation and even more so if you don't.

Oh, this book! I thought I knew what I was in for when I chose to read an ARC of this debut. Kentucky. Coal country. Corrupt mining practices and the all-encompassing impact that environmental devastation can have on a community. And one teen girl who saw the wreckage first hand.Well, I wasn’t prepared for Allgeyer’s ability to create this singular sense of place on the page, making me experience all the stark and all the lush at once. I wasn’t prepared for how much she made me love pragmatic and fearless Granny, how this character would burrow into my heart and pulse there. I was truly unprepared for how much I would root for Liberty as she combed her way through corruption and love and trust and forgiveness. Even Allgeyer’s secondary characters experience glorious character arcs that are important and interconnected and tightly woven into this feverish plot.This debut, for me, was remarkable. It is filled with the power of simple moments. It pulses with ageless wisdom as well as heartbreak. It is a story of advocacy and making peace with your roots, your family. It is a story of fighting for what you believe in. Fighting for the natural beauty our country affords. Fighting for love. This is a story that will stay with me for a very long time, and will forever connect mountains with starfish. Because as Allgeyer’s book proves, everything is connected.

Which is it Bill? Either this source is part of the problem or part of the solution?All in all, the book was big on rehashing stories of spies within the government but short on solutions.

Like a scientist looking at an iceberg Gertz has the contacts and skills to investigate the 80% that's hidden from the public, either through spin control or the bias of the press.Gertz weaves together the threads of the fabric that China uses to blind the American public to the threat while it exerts far too much control over Washington with a combination of agents of influence, spys and those willing to look the other way when the Chicom campaign contributions come rolling in.The follies of the FBI also play a large role in the book as Gertz unravels the bungled investigations and prosecutions which allowed so many spies to go free or with just a slap on the wrist. The bizzare goings on in the FBI's ranks where two senior agents are sleeping with a Chinese agent and feeding her information on other investigations. The belief inside the FBI that the mole must be in the CIA when it was really one of the FBI agents. The tragic loss of material from our nuclear labs.This is a great but not pleasant read. His reasoning and explanations for what comprises Islam were entirely false, off base, and evidence that he did not know the material he was discussing. Each point he made about Muslims was entirely false, as any Islamic scholar, basic theology/religion course, practicing Muslim, or even basic Google searches will tell an individual.It is for those reasons that I cannot recommend this book. If the author had been able to check his biases at the door (as any good analyst/intelligence practictioner should do), this book could be an easy 5 stars. The present biases in the writing, however, are too rampant and cause more harm than aid for those in the field of intelligence.

That is why Keynes idea of spending to break the cycle is important.Another lesson mentioned was that in the 1920s to 1930s, UK government (including Churchill), seek to peg the pound to a higher value for gold back to the pre-WWI standard. This was to have better exchange rate stability and restore "prestige" to the value of the pound.However Keynes make known then that domestic price stability (which affected full employment) should take priority over others. He was proven right when the stronger pound made UK goods uncompetitive and resulted in a gold run and the collapse of the pound.In today's environment, one can often find argument about the need to maintain better exchange rate stability via balancing the budget to preserve US reserve currency status in continuing to borrow in low interest rate. However the fact remains that the challenge to US reserve currency status is perceived, while high employment (which is Keynes objective to tackle) remains real.PART IV[YOU CAN SKIP THESE]Still not convince of Keynes concept on the need for Government intervention to achieve Full Employment? Let's look at some examples that I relate to, after getting the key concept from the book:The US did use Government intervention to extract itself out of Great Depression and took on a big debt at that point. No doubt WWII mobilization played a part to the outcome. However the US Government and Federal Reserve Bank has since use its fiscal and monetary tools to smoothen out the business cycles, to create full employment.Unorthodox observer may argue that we could have let the market take care of itself and the same result would be achieved. The fact remains that via such intervention, a long period of expansion and stability were achieved, as compare to some dreamy assumption.Post War Japan turned into an economic powerhouse via exports. It did so at the expense of owning a huge amount of US debts. Did it matter whether the US could honor the debt ? Probably. But it did matter that Full Employment was achieve in Japan resulting in its recovery from WWII and its amazing progress. At some point, Japan focus was "lost" and resources were indeed devoted to infamous build items like the "bridge to nowhere".Recent miraculous rise of China did so too via cheap labour and exports. Again like Japan, it own a huge amount of US debts. Did it matter that the labours were cheap or that it own a big chunk of US debts which may not be fully paid? Or it matters more that a generation of millions were given employment opportunities.This is not to diminish the fact that China may face the challenges of improper allocation of resources resulting in deepening corruptions, building of more "roads/rails/towns to nowhere" or speculative bubble in the properties market that has to be better managed.But in all the 3 examples above, it can be seen that the Governments practiced Keynes's concept of the need to arrive Full Employment via a number of extra-ordinary means. This means even if it resulted in temporal lower pay for the populace or to own huge amount of debt on credit from the buyer nations that may not be fully repay. Getting Full Employment remains the key and only objective.Having said that, the Government has to balance the inflation such that it remains acceptable for the populace. Equally important is to encourage policies where capital and labor are engage in meaningful activities of production/investment than towards building of "war machines", "roads to nowhere", building of bubbles and corruption.CONCLUSIONAs mention earlier, I am not an economic student or an economist that practice voodoo equations. So some of the interpretations and opinions I have added above may not be accurate. The world is never that simple. But I truly think that this is a good book that put across some powerful points that we need in simple and clear manner. You would be well advised to read it.POST-CONCLUSION OPINION[YOU CAN SKIP THESE]So in the US, you end up with 3 parties that can create policies to influence the status of full employment. You have:Republican PartyObjective:To cut tax so as to return more money to those that are already rich (be it individuals or companies). Mainly this narrow and simple interest. Incidentally, Buffet himself said, he thinks the rich people and companies can live and do well with lesser tax cuts.Argument Used:To return the budget surplus to the people, to reduce tax to boost the economics, to help small businesses, to retain MNCs (even while they are exporting jobs), to reduce to a smaller and leaner government that provides more efficient services.Democratic PartyObjective:To Spend. Provide massive government services to all sector of people and defend the unions and minorities. Maybe even ensure that the Republican party does not lose the elections. Its a diversified coverage of interests. Basically cover everything and nothing.Argument Used:To provide and protect all services. Be it healthcare, social security, medicare, even tax cuts for the rich.Federal Reserve BankObjective:Not too sure of the official definition. But to create meaningful employment in the long run at a sustainable pace I guess.Argument Used:Almost same align with the objective.In sum, Keynes concept may only be best practice by the Federal Reserve Bank. But the effects of any Federal Reserve policies may be negated by the spending bills and regulations enact by either parties that maybe more trained in pandering to their core constituents interest rather than the objective of full employment.This contradiction is further exacerbate when each party hold a branch of the government (Executive and Legislature) and move away further from the full employment objective when each tries to advance their own agendas.Moving back to Keynes concept, each party should be offering choices of investment and spending that can truly create full employment and complement the Federal Reserve policies.With full employment, there will be more revenues from tax to provide more services and tax cuts. Hence all the narrow and diversified interests purse by the parties can be fulfilled. However both parties appear to be putting the cart before the horse. Probably all could do well to read this book.

The other reviewer just does glowing reviews of herr naus - a pattern in his other reviews.the shots are boring. We are treated to the bottom of her shoes, random shots of her legs poorly framed, and even a series where the photographer pestered her trying to get a little laundry done! :)I gave it two stars because she is obviously a very sweet and stunning woman in the clutches of an exploitstive and invasive photographer. :)well, ok, its cheaper than a magazine, but she deserves better.

Just like the others before it, this is just a picture book. The quality is decent, but story could use a touch up...

She's like that one girl we've all had that we day dream about. Extremely beautiful and very sexy shots, I wasn't even mad there weren't any pink close ups.

Having seen Gerald Naus' previous ebooks, it comes as no surprise to me that his 3rd volume of 'The Spread' is filled with great new photos of a beautiful familiar face from the first two volumes. Gerald has a unique vision and point of view that make his images stand out and amaze you. I haven't seen any other authors who have put out ebooks with the same quality and excellence that Gerald has. I can't wait to see what's next!
