This story should appeal to both elementary and middle school girls with it's thirteen-year-old heroine and combination of mystery and Irish dance. I was nine when I first read a Nancy Drew mystery and enjoyed them for many years. Liffey may be following in Nancy's footsteps with her lawyer father, keen observation and fey sense of approaching danger.Things Irish are popular now, especially the dance and Ms. Briggs has obviously had some experience in that competitive world.There is a glossary of Irish dance terms plus historical and geographical tidbits fused into the story line for a little painless education. Even as an adult, I enjoyed and learned from this book and will be giving several as gifts this holiday season.
Liffey Rivers is a great series of books about an teenage Irish dancer whose mother died when she was very young, Liffey eats spaghetti and meatballs the night before competition and bagels the morning of the event. The thing Liffey wants most is to earn her very own solo dress. Liffey is also always getting into trouble. In the first book Liffey is attending a dance competition when she sees a doll in a jumper with a suspiciously sparkly crown. The Liffey Rivers series is great for everyone ranging from competitive Irish dancers to their brothers who think Irish dance is just hopping around on one foot! The Liffey Rivers series is definitely a series you'll want to read over and over and over again.
My daughter is an Irish Dancer which is what promted her to read this series of Liffy River books. Liffy is an Irish Dancer and modern day Nancy Drew. You don't have to be an Irsh Dancer to enjoy these books though. Great for 8-12 yr olds, or the big kid at heart.
Very cute book for the tweener-to-young-teen Irish Dance set! Great length, and a good mystery. Left me wanting to learn more about Liffey herself; thank goodness there are many more books in the series!

We love the Liffey Rivers books. With my daughter being an Irish dancer, she is always so excited to read what adventure this fellow dancer will have and what mystery she will solve. We love the little facts that are woven into the story. Whether an Irish dancer or not, this is a great fun mystery series for any 8-14 year old reader.
I am an adult, but I really enjoyed reading this to my girls! I enjoy mysteries and this was just great. Since my daughters are Irish dancers it made it all the more appealing. Read it!
